Zoo Guidelines

Dear Families,
The zoo trip is right around the corner! We will be leaving promptly at 8:30am on Wednesday. Please make sure your child arrives to school on time. This is an educational trip. We want our students to learn as much as they can on Wednesday. Therefore, please make sure you adhere to the guidelines below.

Students are to wear comfortable walking shoes. NO BOOTS, NO DRESS SHOES, NO SANDALS

Students are to be in uniform.

Students should bring a light jacket in case of rain. This jacket should be easily tied around the waist, as we will be carrying our zoo books all day. (Wed. should be around 60 degrees)

Students should bring a bottle of water with them that will stay on the bus. Students are very thirsty after a long day outside. (ONLY water- due to spillage) Water fountains are located throughout the park.

Students should bring a small snack that will also stay on the bus to be eaten after leaving the park.

Bagged lunches will automatically be bought from the cafeteria.

A disposable camera is acceptable to bring into the zoo. However, your child will be carrying a book and a pencil all day. Backpacks are NOT allowed in the zoo. Therefore, your child would need some sort of fanny pack, or clip for the camera.

We will not be allowing ANY students into the gift shop. It would be unfair for those students that did not have money. It also takes away from the time spent enjoying the animals and learning about them.

Apply sunscreen to your child before they leave for school!

Do not let your child bring money to school on Wednesday. We are not responsible for lost or missing money. Students will not be allowed to buy anything on the trip. (Including things from vending machines)

If you plan to join your child on the trip, make sure the classroom teacher is aware. Because most students will be eating bagged lunches we are asking you not to buy your child food at the zoo. In the past, this has become a discipline problem. Also, be aware that you will have to drive separately.

Siblings are not allowed to attend this trip, even if paid for separately. We feel that this takes away from your FIRST GRADER’S experience. In the past, it has also caused some problems. Please make arrangements for them.

If you are planning to chaperon, please make sure the classroom teacher is aware. Please make sure you have a cell phone, and the teacher has your number. The zoo is a large park! We don’t want anyone to get lost!

Classroom teachers will decide on times to eat lunch. Please stay in contact with your teacher so you know when to meet for lunch.

Make sure your child eats a hearty breakfast! It is going to be a LONG day!

If you have questions, please see Ms. Feinman

Thank you, First Grade Team
